If the very thought of visiting a dentist makes you break out in a cold sweat, sedation dentistry may be perfect for you.  We offer many sedation solutions to help you with your dental needs at our Wilmington, Delaware practice, so even the most anxious patients can comfortably undergo necessary dental treatment.

We offer:

  • IV sedation dentistry
  • Oral sedation
  • Nitrous oxide

Before you undergo sedation dentistry at our Wilmington, Delaware, practice, the dentist will sit down with you to answer all of your questions and make sure you are a good candidate for sedation. Once we have reviewed your treatment plan with you, we will schedule an appointment at your convenience.

If any of these conditions sound all too familiar, sedation dentistry may be right for you:

  • Paralyzing fear of undergoing dental treatment
  • History of traumatic dental experiences
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • Extremely sensitive teeth
  • Hate the sounds and smells associated with dental treatment
  • Avoid going to the dentist, even though you are experiencing discomfort
  • Experience sweaty palms or grip the armrests during treatment

Don’t let your smile – and your health – suffer because of your fear.

IV Sedation Dentistry

Intravenous Sedation Dentistry (IV sedation), sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry”, offers the best comfort and most controllable level of sedation. Whether you are a true dental phobic or just want to be able to snooze through your treatment and have no memory of it when you are done, IV sedation dentistry at our Wilmington, Delaware, office is for you.

With IV sedation dentistry, we can fix years worth of damage in just one comfortable visit. We can fill your teeth with natural tooth-colored fillings, place crowns, implants, place porcelain veneers, perform teeth whitening, and even restore sore gums to perfect health.

IV sedation offers the ultimate in patient comfort. During your treatment you will be deeply relaxed, but you will be able to respond to simple requests. You will not be aware of your procedure, and you will not feel any discomfort. Once your sedation dentistry procedure is complete, you will wake up with no memory of your treatment.

Oral Sedation Dentistry

Oral sedation is a medium sedation method that is a great option to ensure you are completely relaxed for your dental visit. Oral sedation is administered by the dentist and is placed in the mouth at the start of your dental treatment.  This is a great way to have your dental needs completed in short comfortable visits. At the end of your dental visit, you will be driven home by your designated driver, and will relax for the rest of the day.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry

For the less anxious patient who just needs a little help relaxing, nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is a great option. Nitrous oxide is an extremely safe, effective method of sedation dentistry. The level of sedation can be adjusted to match each individual patient’s needs.

When you are completely relaxed, we will begin treatment. Because nitrous oxide is a conscious sedation dentistry technique, you will always be conscious and completely under control. You will also be able to let the dentist know if you are feeling any discomfort or uncomfortable sensations. If for some reason you feel uncomfortable, the nitrous oxide can be discontinued, and within five minutes you should feel the effects disappear. Once your procedure is complete, you will be given pure oxygen for about five minutes. You should return to “normal” very quickly, and you will be able to drive yourself home.
